From August 16 to 29, the 3rd Summer Program for Innovative Engineering Design (SPIED) was held at Kunsan National University (KNU), Korea. Six senior students and nine master students attended this big event led by Prof.Pan Tianhong and Prof. Zhu Yi.
On August 17,Prof. Luo Yijun, President of KNU declared the 3rd SPIED open, with a great welcome-speech. The theme of this year’s SPIED is what we can do for an aged society. All students were divided into 7 teams of beginner class and 7 teams of advanced classes according to the original plan. Each team was consisted of 5 to 6 students from different majors, including mechanical, electrical and computer technology.
After 4 days' learning, each team proposed an innovative project concerning the topic of aged society. Then comes the Design &Teamwork period. Each team successfully created an innovative product after three days’ intensive discussion and international cooperation. Each product was excellent and extensible, part of which can even go into market after further development. University students from China, Japan, and Korea had a wonderful two- week experience to share innovative ideas in engineering design. SPIED was initiated by Jiangsu University (China), Kunsan National University (Korea) and Yamaguchi University (Japan) in 2013. The 4th SPIED will be held at YU.
